Satellite Tv Dish - Technology Is Here

A satellite tv dish is actually a type of parabolic antenna. However, the satellite dish’s purpose is more specific: it is meant to receive and transmit signals to/from satellites. I am very sure you have all seen them: mounted on houses or at apartment windows, they are used more and more often by people who want to be able to watch high quality satellite television.

The satellite tv dish has a parabolic shape, which is meant to reflect the signal to a dish’s focal point. Then, the signal is “collected” by the feedhorn, which is used to convey the waves. But we’ll get into more technical aspects a little bit later.

The diameter of a dish varies, but a typical one, used for the average television purposes can get anywhere between 45 and 80 centimeters. It needs to be fixed in a position, for it to be able to receive the signal. However, dishes which are very small can still cause you problems of interference from other satellites or rain.

Nowadays, we have DBS, or Direct Broadcast Satellite. This term refers exactly to satellite tv which is aimed at providing home television, and it covers both the digital and analog reception. However, it was not always like that. As a matter of fact, it was not so long ago that people used 3 meters wide dishes (which were motorized) in order to receive signals from one satellite or another.

Technology has come a long way, there is absolutely no doubt about that. As a matter of fact it is developing at such a rate, as we have troubles keeping up with it. Now, almost any household in America is able to benefit from the wonders of satellite tv. An extravagance not so many years ago, the satellite tv dish is a normal sight nowadays, especially since it's been given for free by services like DirecTV and Dish Network.
